Location: Pine Bluff, Arkansas (Remote with Travel as Needed)

Salary: $130,000-$150,000


The Project/Process Automation Engineer is responsible for architecting and implementing the plant control system for the Carbon Casting process. This includes specifying the PLC, VFD’s, instrumentation for each piece of capital equipment, providing design guidance on the control cabinets, networking and communication protocols. This person is expected to prepare the plant control philosophy, develop SCADA HMI’s in conjunction with external contractors and troubleshoot issues on the production line prior to handover to the operations team. This person will participate in developing, leading, and executing capital projects, initially at the Graphyte Processing Facility in Pine Bluff, AR and later at additional sites. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a highly collaborative personality and strong engineering background. Experience in process and project engineering in grain handling, wood pelleting, and food processing industries is valued.




  • Develop and implement the Plant Wide control system architecture

  • Specify electrical and controls standards for individual pieces of capital equipment

  • Write controls logic for integrating each piece of equipment and instrumentation with the plant wide architecture

  • Design low voltage electrical and control cabinets following NFPA, NEC, FM, UL standards

  • Supporting the build of test equipment and products by designing the electrical layout, selecting controls components, and designing subassemblies and interconnections for manufacturability

  • Troubleshoot process challenges on the production line and Identifies areas for improvement and optimization

  • Perform FAT, SAT and Commissioning of equipment


  • Read and modify PFD’s, P&ID’s and identify areas of improvement

  • Select instrumentation, specify set points, tune PID loops for optimum performance of process equipment

  • Develop standards and best practices (with external stakeholders) to support process optimization

  • Implements suggested process changes and captures data to document improvements



  • Responsible for project scope execution, cost, schedule management and safety

  • Assists in the competitive selection process, contract negotiation process, and oversight of consultants, specialty vendors, and construction teams as necessary for each project

  • Prepares Best Value Option Analysis (BVOA) to compare solutions and cost for best value and provide recommendations to leadership

  • Reviews, marks up, and approves drawings and other technical documentation

  • Provides field installation supervision, leads commissioning, and field troubleshooting during startup phase

  • Communicates project status throughout the organization

  • Adds value by influencing through innovation and continuous improvement

  • Identifies, develops, and implements process improvement projects to increase productivity, reliability, sustainability, and cost reduction


  • 5+ years experience working with PLC’s - Allen Bradley, Siemens, VFD’s

  • Knowledge of HMI/SCADA platforms (Ignition)

  • Communication protocols – Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus

  • Knowledge of electrical field devices – limit switches, flow sensors, solenoid valves, proximity switches

  • Experience configuring analog IO (raw counts, scaling, and units)

  • Implementing safety circuits including EStops, Light curtains and motor disconnects

  • Programing and testing alarms, messaging, indications specific to project

  • Assist with machine start-ups (I/O checks, devices setup, program upload, safety system checks, robot teaching, and machine test and debugging)

  • Contractor management experience, including scoping the work, managing a bidding process, negotiations, field installation supervision, and change order management

  • Ability to communicate and present to individuals at all levels of the organization

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to a fast-changing environment

  • Proficient in Excel, Power Point, MS Project, Word

  • Travel will be approximately 30% but may be higher during specific project phases.
